Unhappy Brake Issues - need some help

All

First - thanks for all the wonderful posts! It's very much because of you all that I am now the proud owner of a 98 gs 300. But...

Something funky is going on with my front brakes. When I am nearing a stop (10mph and below), I get this very funny deep metallic sound (a little like a cruise ship creaking - make sense?). It's not the usual high pitch squeal I've heard on other cars when the brake pads are low. It's also not a constant sound, but intermitent, like "booomp........boomp....boomp..boomp" as I slow to a stop.

Any help would be very much appreciated. Something serious?

Welcome to ClubLexus!

Sounds to me like your brake rotors might be warped. Does your brake pedal or steering wheel also feel like it shimmies a bit along with the noise?

The they are warped (depending on how badly) they can be resurfaced or turned - or replaced.

No, it doesn't really shimee when I break, but that does sound like a potential problem. I just drove it at lunch and with the windows down, as I was coming to a stop, it sounded like something clicking against something else as it spun. Hmmm....

BTW - thanks for the welcome and the reply. This is a great site.

I did a full write-up regarding squeaking brakes and noises in the 1st gen forum. Search brake.

I would imagine you have 1 of 2 problems. Your rotors are warped or you are using the red brakes from autozone(very harsh)

. Remember you should always try to stick with OEM brakes or a highend brake such as EBC..etc..
