Default life span of OEM rotor and brake pad

I have a 2016 IS 300 AWD, so far I have logged about 40k km. any idea how long before I have to replace the brake pads which means most likely new rotors. I do not drive very hard on them.

if your easy on the brakes maybe 20-25k. The pads will pretty much eat into your rotors and won’t be resurfacable

Replacement of the rotors really depend on there condition.
It could be a situation where the pads have eaten into the rotors due to driving habits and you'll need rotors every time you replace pads.
Also environment plays a factor. If you live in an area where you get snow in the winter and your city uses road salt and brine, that will kill rotors as well.

At the end of the day it's worth taking a close look at the rotors to assess their condition prior to going in there to replace the pads.
Typically, a rotor will last two sets of pads. After the first set wear out, machine the rotors, and installed the second set.
Once the second set wears out, throw out the rotors and pads.

Unfortunately rotor quality over the years have diminished as manufacturers try to make them more environmentally friendly.
The climate conditions where I am pretty much dictate that I'll be changing rotors with pads pretty much every time due to corrosion.
