BAD noises after perf rear rotor/pad job. '02 IS300
Was all excited about getting some new slotted/drilled rear rotors all to have my heart torn by just barely moving down the driveway and "Screech--Grind"!!
What the heck went wrong?
I've done dozens of rear rotor jobs..
Well, bought the car used with about 147k on it and think they were the original ones. And had a couple panic stops (Memphis drivers..) and knew that what was left on the pad tore off, making a horrible grinding noise.
Well, you'll see that it wasn't just the pad or e-brake shoes. But the little shoe retainer 'hats' hitting the heads of the wheel studs.
Fast forward to after the install and part of the noise was a kind of fluttering!??
Look closely and you can see the wear mark on the little spring 'hat'.
Another area was the dust shield rubbing the inner circle of the rotor.
To alleviate 'that' noise, I just tapped it with my 3#.
The hat was stumping me for a few minutes before I thought of making a spacer behind the dust shield with a cotter pin head cut down to pull the whole spring assy inward.
Cotter pin goes under head of shoe locating pin.
Not really sure what was going on inside before I pulled the brakes apart, but it's A LOT quieter than before.
Just maybe a bit more tapping the backing plate, as I can still hear a little high pitched squealing somewhere in back.
I didn't want to threadjack somebody else, so just posted my own.
Hope it helps others.
