Q: Is keeping coil overs on hard setting ok?
Just wondering which setting best extends the life of coil overs. I like the hard setting but wondering if that stiffness wears out other components and or the coil over itself.
Thanks in advance.

All about that race life lol. Well it depends on your roads. Some states (like Oregon where I'm from) for some reason have the money to keep smooth, fresh paved roads in which case you can have tight settings and enjoy the corners. But here in Califronia, despite the huge amount of taxes, we have the *****tiest roads in the country In which case it's actually dangerous to have your setting so tight. You can litterally jounce the tires off the road from bumps and pot holes. This is the exact opposite of what any suspension is meant to do.

In theory, stiffer settings load more energy into the damper, since it has to arrest the motion of the suspension. Does it actually wear out your components faster? Not if they're good quality, not in any sort of noticeable manner, on a street car. Seal failures were common on ****ty Chinese-parts-bin coilovers with overly stiff springs, but any properly constructed damper should be able to handle its own stiffest settings.
Any time you make something stiffer, the energy that it resists gets transferred into other components and/or becomes heat that needs to be dissipated.

Thanks. I’ve got the BC (racing?) coilovers.
Yea, here in northern Jersey/nyc the roads are kinda crappy.
So perhaps “stiff arming” the bumps isn’t the best for the suspension. Though yea, on a tight smooth corner it’s nice.
I think I’ll take em about 10 clicks away from hard and see if that’s a happy middle.
Thanks
