Default Anti-rattle squeel plates

The metal backing plates that go on the back of the brake pads also referred to as anti-squeel plates, are they needed to prevent squeel? If I didn't have them but had plenty of brake grease on the ears of the pads and on the piston surface is it still going to squeel? I'm missing the plates and get really bad squeel. I've lubricated with grease and it's calmed down but I can hear it slowly coming back

The squeal is resonated when you don't have the backing plates with the anti squeal grease/silicon. It still probably the pad surface and the rotor making the real squeal.

I don't always have time to do my brakes but when I do I've used CRC's Disc Brake Quiet Spray in the past & its never let me down. My brakes were almost always quiet but eventually after maybe 5+ car washes the spray wears off & in the summer you'll start to hear a few squeaks here & there. Best of luck to ya!
