Long story short - I was having some trouble getting the 19MM bolt that connects to the upper control arm in the rear to the knuckle/wheel hub.
I'm in the process of replacing a bunch of bushings in the rear including the subframe, and virtually all control arms in the back so dropping the subframe and diff was in the cards to begin with. However, while trying to remove the axle from the hub, it instead popped outta the differential!!!
As you can see, the passenger side axle is still in tact into the diff and the wheel hub was successfully removed without any problems. This is what I was going for on the driver side but instead this happened..
Did I mess up my axle? Is there any way I can shove it back into the diff? What should I do now?
You didn't mess up anything. But check that seal to make sure it is not damaged, carefully inspect the rubber and also look for a circular spring (mirror) it goes around the circumstance of the lip.
....looking at that seal more closely not sure but think I see damage might be time to replace. The axle easily pops back in.
Question to anybody that has read this ~ How do you remove the axle from the diff? As you can see in one of my pics, the passenger side axle is still inside the diff. No matter how much I pull, it doesn't come out as easily as the side that was removed.
The driver side literally fell out of the diff while trying hitting the side behind the wheel hub with a punch in an effort to remove the axle from the wheel hub. So I guess I got lucky on that side (I think...?)
But for some reason, the passenger side axle is being stubborn and won't separate from the differential.
