Default Lexus IS250 2007 RWD Rear Strut Replacement

Hi all. I am trying to replace my rear strut/shock on a Lexus Is250 2007 RWD. However the KYB 551132 Strut I got was seems to be a bit longer than the original stock strut I removed, is this normal? (See picture). I couldn't reconnect the control arm back since the new one was a bit longer so I ended up just putting the old ones back and get further help. Did I needed to compress the new strut with a jack to get it to fit with the control arm? Thank you.

Pull up on the old strut it should extend the same amount as the new one. Was the strut shipped compressed all the way and you released it by rotating the shaft? Either way yes you'll have to compress the new one it get it mounted.

No I didn't release it or rotate anything, the new strut came like that. The old strut doesn't extend any further. So I'm just wondering if this needs OEM struts or I just need to compress the new KYB ones to fit it into the control arm.
