I have a 2000 gs400 with about 200k on the factory struts. I'm going to swap them for some coilovers. I've looked at alot of the common names that come up (BC, Tein, Ksport, etc) and they all seem to have negative reviews. I'm comfortable spending 1-2k on coilovers.
Are there any quality coilovers in that range that anyone would recommend?

What is your goal? The thing with coilovers is they WILL start clunking and need a rebuild in 50k miles or less because of how they are built no matter the price. I know several people who have paid $3k for Ohlins and they lasted less than 20k before needing to be rebuilt (although the car was driven very hard) and the main benefit is more control over the car. Better damping, more spring rate options, corner balancing, etc. which is required when you're trying to go fast on a track. If you're just looking for some additional handling and long term reliability for daily driving get some H&R sport springs and Bilstein B8 shocks. The adjustability is overrated for the street anyway.

Honestly just looking for a slightly lower ride, and damper adjustment. It's going to be a DD. By no means do I race the car, but I do drive a little more aggressively when traffic permits.

I've had Megan coilovers for probably close to a decade and they have been holding up fine for street duty, no clunking. No complaints here.
In fact, there was multiple times where I suspected the coilovers were the source of an issue and it turned out to be something else - upper control arm bushings, sway bar end-links, etc.
For a street car, I also like the recommendation above to utilize Bilsteins which are second to none in quality.
