Default Tanabe Springs-Dealer or Shop?

The dealer charges $600 to install the Tanabe Springs. The shop charges $225 (experienced, good tech). The springs cost around $200-$250.

Which would you go with? Is it worth the extra $375 to have the dealer do the install? If the dealer does the install I assume the warranty is not altered.
Is this correct? If not, then then having the dealer do the install seems like a waste of money.

what kind of a shop are you talking about? back in the tuning scene, the only person I would let touch my suspension work is an experienced shop that specialize in suspension work.

i will never let dealer do any after market installation.

AGREE!!!

Besides, installing springs to your toy WILL NOT void your warranty (unless they are able to determine "springs" are the cause of failure)!!!

Let the expert do the work and do it right, then bring it to Firestone for lifetime alignment after the springs have settle (cost at Firestone is about the same as one time alignment at the Lexus)!!!

GS' suspension is way to fragile, one little bump or pothole would alter the alignment. Therefore, it is better to get it done at Firestone for its lifetime alignment warranty.

Personally, downtown Dallas' road is like a dirty track, so I have my toys realign every two months!!!

dealership is not superior, keep that in mind. you are not "gaining" anything by going to dealership

a good shop with experienced tech is all you need.

I have my springs eliminated to two: Tanane NF210 vs. Tein H Tech

Both lower the car a little around 1.2" max. The Tanabe specs. actually show a bit less drop on the GS 350 RWD. As far as quality which is superior?

Go with the Tanabe. Tein springs tend to sit lower in the rear than the fronts, giving you a squatted look.

The latest Toyota/Lexus stuff hasn't done that for example the 2IS and 3GS.

I agree the Tanabe NF 210's look very good on the new 3GS Lexus. The owners of these cars (sans the AWD model) do not have higher fronts than the rears. In fact, a careful study off all pictures of Tanabe NF 210 vehicles shows the exact opposite (again sans AWD). The front end is a few MM lower than the rear.

As for Tein H springs the number of pictures are limited but the ones posted look very similar to the Tanabe. If you check the specs on the '07 and '08 Tanabe vs. TEin H springs they are almost identical. However, I must admit the Tein H spring equipped vehicles do appear SLIGHTLY higher in the picture (se FL Lex recent thread).

The decision is personal but for me the deciding factor is buying the better quality spring.

I stand corrected. The Tanabe NF 210's DO lower the GS more than the Tein H tech springs- about 20% more. The actual drop is only about 0.2 inches more but it is still more.

Why do you prefer the Tanabe N210's over the TEin H tech?
