Unhappy F-Sport springs install sanity check

My new springs are sitting in the garage for a month already. I have called couple of to dealerships and got shocked. Serramonte springs install + alignment $976.00 (6 hrs.) and Putnam $850 (5.5 hrs.). Did anybody use dealers in Bay Area for the install, what was the total? Those quotes are very discouraging. My car is under original and extended warranty; I really would like to use the official installer. I would never lower but my car does not look right on 19s.

lowering ur car is not going to affect ur warranty unless it does indeed cause some problems..

do NOT under ANY circumstances install these at the dealer, probably one of the stupidest things u can do..

just post on the local forums there and ask someone to recommened a reputable shop, if you are in socal, i can probably recommend about 10

I just got mine installed today. My independent mechanic charged me 6 hours @ $65 CAD ($60 USD)/hr. Seemed a bit high but I didn't really go around looking for prices. Random Lexus dealership wanted 6 hours @ $110 CAD/hr. Oh well, they took their time and was very careful with everything so I can't complain. (Alignment I will have to do later.)

So you found a dealership that was willing to install these springs on an AWD? I have a feeling that my dealership will decline the install...which is fine since they seem to overcharge anyway. Just curious if a dealership is willing to warranty the work since they're not approved for the AWD.

I didn't tell the dealership that it was an AWD. I only asked them how much it would cost to install (I was curious but had no real intentions of getting them installed there). I'm not too concerned about the warranty since I bought them from Sewell Lexus and installed them in Canada.

I agree with what others have already said. Don't take it to the dealership unless you want to pay $$$$ for the install.

You should post in the Northern Ca section. I'm sure you'll get a lot more responses. Have you tried contacting Exact Motorsports in Milpitas? I know a few members have gone there for suspension install. Good luck.

i paid nothing to install my coils

i agree about doing it yourself. its very simple and there is a spring install DIY in the 2IS forum with pictures. its pretty easy.

if you do not wish to tackle it yourself, again i agree do not go to the dealer. find another shop near you or post in your regional forum. im sure someone can help. i dont know about cali but average rate for spring install around my way is about 200-300 (no including alignment).

is an alignment necessary...and should you wait to do an alignment until the springs settle, or just combine the jobs into one trip to the shop?

i believe an alignment is necessary since anytime you remove a major suspension componet like a strut, the odds of you replacing it exactly where it came unbolted from is unlikely. you can get it close but its always best to get an alignment just for added measures.

typical most people say wait about 2 weeks for so or approx 300 miles til the springs/suspension settles.

Expect to pay about $300-$350 including alignment, if using a good and experienced independent shop. The warranty is not an issue.
