Default Everyone with "F-SPORT SPRINGS"

I installed the F-sport springs (Part #: PTR0730090) over the weekend and the mechanic told me that the springs were not a direct replacement for OEM springs. He said they did not line up properly it was about 1/2 inch off with the shocks. He also stated over along period of time it could blow the shocks... Now I have to buy the F-sport shocks.

My question is has anyone else heard about this ?

what does he mean not lining up? you sit the coil seat on the spring perch and the strut mount goes up top. obviously lowering springs will wear out a stock strut/shock quicker than an oem spring.

I hope he didn't mistake the fronts for the rears and vice versa. They look similar but are different. The other mistake he could've made was that he put them in upside down.

There are many folks here running Fsport springs on factory shocks with no reports like this.

I dont know man thats what he told me. He works at a Large lexus dealership in Miami.

He said basically they did not sit properly with the stock struts. He said they are meant to be with the F-sport struts.

yes he is a lexus tech. I dont think he was trying to get money out of me, he actually hooked me up because he did it as a side job and charge me pennies. I wanted to get the f-sport struts in the future anyways.

The car drives fine, very smooth and a little stiff on rough bumps. I did not even need an alignment after the installation which I found odd. I guess he spooked me when he told me that about the springs. I trust him he is a young kid with a passion for hooking up cars.

they should be direct replacement, i am also in fear he put them on incorrectly.

but on the shocks, well, he's right, lowering springs on stock shocks, for sure it will wear out stock ones faster

You need to find a new "tech". Him telling you that you don't need an alignment too? These are direct replacements and do not REQUIRE fsport shocks.

ok, let me clear it up. He told me that the spring itslef does not sit properly on the bottom, there is like 3/4 inch gap. He told me it was the same for an IS250 with f-sport springs, so i guess this is normal ?

it really sounds like hes been installing them upside down the entire time.

it is odd that you didnt need an alignment but its not unheard of. its possible to get it back very close when putting the suspension back together.

what do you mean your car drives fine? alignment issues don't mean your car will be pulling left and right going everywhere. your car can have very bad camber and toe out and it will still go straight, until you get insane wear on the inner side of the tires

Yup, it's a common mistake techs make, I had my BMW tech install my Eibach springs upside down, only to be told by another tech before he wrapped up the work!

Also, when you lower the car, naturally there will be an increase in your negative camber which you may or may not want to correct. Depends how often you want to replace your tyres!!
