2006 GS300 Rear Strut Replacement
My car is at 120,000 miles and the dealer is telling me the rear struts are leaking. The car still rides somewhat smooth for the time being however I imagine that it will get worse as time passes. I will more than likely go with oem parts to replace them unless someone else on here has gone with a comparable replacement to oems? Also has anyone attempted this as a DIY. If so was it easy or hard? How long should this job take? Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks

The rears are more involved than the front. If its similar to a 350 the trunk has to be pretty much completely removed. You will need to rent/buy a spring compressor because the coil has to be removed and replaced. Air tools will save you a ton of time.
The most time consuming part of the job is removing all of the material in the trunk to gain access to the upper bolts on the strut tower.

No need to replace the springs unless they're broken? Or you want to lower the vehicle? Even though they have a lot of miles I don't think it's necessary. The strut replacement will make the biggest difference if they're leaking/blown.

KYB's are the OEM struts, they're the most recommended if you want to keep everything the same as OEM.
AFAIK, the consensus for aftermarket struts and springs, it's BCR w/ swift springs, or the $1kish Megans (forgot what label they go under as).

Just did the rears on my wife's 2007 GS350. What a Pain in the butt job. Getting to the strut towers in the trunk was not that bad. Bad part for me was getting everything lined up underneath the car to get the bolts back in lca.
