What I was trying to say is if you do a staggered look and you want your car to "look even" and your speedo to read right then you will need a lower profile in the rear... Let me see if I can explain it a diff way...

Aftermarket
245 / 40(98mm) / 18(457mm) = 555mm*
285 / 35(99mm) / 18(457mm) = 556mm*

*= the total diameter from top or tire to bottom (including rim)

As you can see from the ex above both fronts / rears about about the same (1mm does not matter)

Nof if you would have did the same ex as able but had 285/40/18's on the rear you would have a 15mm (1/2in in total) / (1/4in) on each side of the rim larger sidewall...

Hope this helps...
Shawn

Stock setup
215(mm) / 60(129mm) / 15(381mm) = 510mm* in diameter x 215mm width

So you want your aftermarket rims and tires to come as close to the 510mm diameter as you can get since the cars speedo was set for that size wheel to run accurate...

I believe what he means by staggered is by staggering the width, such as I had suggested with an 18x9 in front and an 18x10 in back. As a general rule of thumb, you don't really want to stagger the diameter of the wheel, but it is fine to stagger the width.

Another way to think of the height issue with the tires is that if you have a tire that is 275mm wide and the profile is 35% (such as a 275/35 18) the total height of the sidewall will be 96mm, and if you have a 245/40 in front the sidewall height will be 98mm, and those 2mm are not even noticeable. The total outside diameter of both wheels would be close enough to work together. The height and diameter will both result in rubbing issues, it is just that a tall and wide tire will have more chance of rubbing than a short and wide tire...

now how about my offset question
240_Keyy, you are correct, when we say "staggered" we are talking about the width of the tire, not the over all diameter... So if you are looking for an 18x9 on front and 18x10 on the back then you are going for a staggered look... Also the profile of say a 275/35 is 96mm as you stated is the mm of the tire only which comes out to 48mm on each side of the rim, just in case this was unclear to anyone...

I think that the widest you would want to go would probably be a 9 or a 9.5 in front and a 10 in back.

Offsets I don't know, that is what I am trying to find out for myself

what offsets would be good for an 18x9 in front and an 18x10 in back?

Cool, I hope I didn't bore you to much LOL, I couldn't think of a simpler way of explaining it LOL... I am more of a visual person my self and its kind of hard for me to write stuff out for people with out showing them...

DONT QUOTE ME
What I am about to say I am only going on memory and can't remember 100%... But I think a member had a set of 315s on the back (finders were prob tucked) and I think maybe a 245 / 255 on the front ?? again that is tire sizes and I am not sure on the wheel size, again please don't quote me on what I stated in paragraph...
DONT QUOTE ME

If you need anything else please let me know...

You can do a 10.5 or 11 in the rear, but you will have to tuck your finders so they don't rub... I am sure that is not cheap and I am not sure if you are willing to do that so I would prob say 10, maybe 10.5 depending on the drop and what not...

Ok so I guess I should specifically ask....

will an 18x9 +37 in front and an 18x10 +43 in back work or will they stick out?

good link man, im concern about the tires that wide being compacted into a skinny wheel. John from M&H tires schooled me on that before, he said that if you stick a wide tire onto a skinny wheel, the tire tends to pop up in the middle and traction is focused in the middle and making it wear out faster. i wonder what's the ideal wheel width to fit those 315's?

You re an all out car guy. I am surprise you dont know most of this.

I vote for the gold wheels 1st ssr polish 2nd. GOLD center Volks was what I wanted at first.

I run 275/35/18 in the back. and it rubbed and my car is not dropped. I had to remove the wheel well trim and rolled the lip. no more rubbing.

315 in the back??? that is gonna be a bad ****** trucker.

switching from Honda's to Toyota's is a quite different transition that im not used to yet

You think i can get away with 18x10.5 285/35/18 in the rears if i slammed the car like MrJohnTan?

i think the lower the offset number, the more it sticks out. so i think 18x10 +43 will work.. im not too sure about the front's. check this out...

I have lots of confidence in you man. I have no doubt your car will be stunning.

If you take the money that you spent on your Honda and put it on this SC. It will be a killer SC.
I have a feeling you wanna hit 10sec in style.

215/60/15 = SC300 and I think maybe they also had 205/65/15

225/55/16 = SC400

Here you go,
Shawn
