Default Mudflaps - Another Easy DIY

I just put on the factory mudflaps and thought i'd document the process for you all. Total time 20 min, up to an hour if you have running boards installed.
Tools required:
  • Drill
  • Pilot Bit
  • ~1/4" bit
  • 10mm socket
  • Any sort of stubby screwdriver. I used a #2 Philips bit and a mini vicegrip

Tools required

Step 1: remove the 10mm bolt behind rear wheel

Bottom attachment screw

Step 2: Drill holes for retaining screws. Here are the circled points you'll drill. You can see slight indentations where you're supposed to drill. If in doubt, hold up mudflap to car and see where attachment points are!

Drill locations

Here i drilled. With rear wheel attached the top is pretty easy, middle has to come in at a slight angle, and the bottom one is more angled than ideal, but I really dont think it will matter one bit with the mudguard installed

Here are the clips installed. Small clip at the bottom, big clips for the top 2

With Clips

All you've gotta do is screw the mudflap in now! Again, top two were easy with my drill+bit. The bottom one required me to use my makeshift stubby screwdriver.

Ok onto the fronts! Here's where the back mointing point should go. Totally blocked by my running boards!

Front clip blocked by runningboard

I loosened all 8 bolts a few turns to allow the running board to sag. Access was a breeze! Then just torque them down again. If you installed the running boards yourself, this should be easy for you. I felt around blindly under the car for where i knew the bolts to be. If the factory did it for you, refer to the installation instructions here and/or slide under the car and have a look. YMMV but when i was installing the running boards i could slide my head under there without a jack--barely!

Dropped running board gives space

The fronts dont need drills or a clip. Just turn the wheels out of the way and screw them in!
