If the press release from Toyota is the full story, this is probably not a buy back situation. Having the shop remove the headliner to install a revised airbag will not be the most convenient experience but that's why people tell you not to buy the first model year!
The initial post talked about structural issues as well; is there any information around other potential scope, or was that just rumor mill prior to the official statement?

After my experience with my 2016 Honda Pilot, I told myself that I’d never buy a first gen after a redesign again, but the TX was so compelling and after all, it’s a Toyota!
Oops!
Looks like I’ll be sticking to that philosophy going forward.

Bought TX on June 14
I bought a TX 350 Luxury AWD on June 14. I have really liked the vehicle so far. We took it to the beach last week, and it performed admirably, both for 6 passengers (at times) and lots of cargo.
I am bumming about the recall. The 2024s are likely to all hit the dealers late fall, after competing brands/models start getting in their 2025 models. I predict heavy discounting. I wish I had waited. Oh well...

Lexus service rep thinks that this will be handled with a software update (kinda shrugged it off as easily fixed). Perhaps he's thinking the timing of the airbags or sequence will solve the issue.

Lexus Test Driver
For safety, to me, the real bummer is the Lexus TX only gets an "Acceptable" structure in the small overlap frontal test. An 'acceptable' structure should not occur in 2024.

In the side test, TX gets elevated pelvis force readings resulting in an "acceptable." It should be 'Good' for 2024, for a vehicle of that size, weight, and height.

When I first read "Lexus is fixing the structure," this is what I thought could be happening. but turns out they're just fixing the trim around the airbag.

Additional details and seems like root cause is not found yet.

See below from recall notice, the dealer or yourself are able to charge back up to $60 per day to Toyota, meaning Toyota pays the bill. Dealer can charge back for the loaner, or if they need to go outside rental company.
I would definitely do this regardless if your uncomfortable driving it or not. Free miles and wear tear on loaner other then your car.

This is explaining to dealer how they claim cost it back from Toyota, if there safety recall with no resolution by law you are entitled to loaner or rental. It is as clear as black and white, understand dealer may not want do this but it is writing and if you had to escalate with Toyota they would accept it.
