Default Non-Run Flat Winter Tire/wheel question

I recently purchased a 2019 UX Hybrid AWD luxury edition vehicle and looking at putting winter tires on the vehicle. I just wondered if there’s any specific size and or rim requirement for the Hybrid. As you know the UX Hybrid comes standard with 18” run flats.

Reason I ask is I have a nearly new set of 17 inch Bridgestone Blizzak tires mounted on Lexus 17” rims from my wife’s previous 2006 IS. I am not concerned with using non run flat winter tires as I previously ran in my previous BMW and we don’t venture too far from home in winter. The difference is of course that the UX is a hybrid and with brake regeneration I wonder if there is an issue using the older IS Rim as well as dropping an inch in tire/wheel size.

Appreciate any input.

The wheel diameter doesn't matter as much as the tire diameter. You'll want a taller sidewall tire to compensate for that inch. If the overall diameter is different, your speedometer/odometer will be off, and your ride and handling may be compromised. Not to mention, you probably don't want to be riding lower in the snow.

You have 225/50 R18s. So a 225/55 R17 tire would probably be closest in diameter.

Thanks for responding. I just checked my Blizzaks and they are 225/45/R17.... are these viable? You are correct in the run flats are 225/50/R18. Thanks

Your run flats have a diameter of 26.9 inches. The Bizzaks have a diameter of 25 inches. So you'll be sitting an inch lower, and your speedometer will be reading higher.

Here's an online calculator https://tiresize.com/calculator/

Default Winter Tires

Thanks for replies, I’m going to just buy same size as stock tires and rims.

Update: According to the Lexus Canada website and confirmation from dealer, see below:

TIRE SIZES

When your Lexus vehicle was designed, the engineers and product planners carefully selected a tire size, considering many factors, including performance, safety, and fuel efficiency. Lexus recommends that you select the original tire size when selecting winter, performance, or all-season replacement tires.
