I remember seeing a 240 with a fusa while cruising on the freeway before...I think the only thing mainstream about VIP are the Fusa's...
With all the ballers on budgets catching on sooner or later, the face of VIP could turn ugly. I've already noticed this popular trend in CL.

When I say "mainstream", I mean mainstream media outlets.

This is exactly the reason why I am hesitant on adopting the VIP look.
Don't take me wrong - I agree it's a great look and I can certainly appreciate the quality that goes into it but the perception that the mainstream US market has of VIP is too negative.
Just check out the main title of that article - "Keepin it Gangsta Homie".
Greeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaat... so hypothetically I sink 50k into a vehicle and other mods to make it VIP and it's been downgraded to a "gangsta" look.
Not exactly what I would want but unfortunately that's where "mainstream" is pointing it...
Does this make me want to go VIP still? I'm sorry to say - nope. Not anymore.

here's a photo -
i did not do the vip route with my car. here in AZ, it would be percieved as being gangsta. that image was before the repaint of the front lip and the clear side markers.
everything else is the same... tein cs, aristo stb, daizen sways, staggered work wheels, etc...

I personally see the VIP trend hitting our mainstream media (thanks mark) with presence and respect, VIP demands nothing less (unless of course you go at it with an empty pocket, then you'll just end up looking like a fool)

I say if you like the VIP look, then go for it. If you don't, then stay with the look you have now. Why let an article have that much impact on you??? Keep in mind, the author's job is to provide an entertaining article to present the cars and the history behind the VIP look. The title is a play on words....no need to take it so literally that it impacts how you modify your car....
