Interested in Air
Hey guys, I am currently interested in going Air with UAS w/Megan Coilover.
I was told that it can fit but modification is needed.
I was told that the 2nd/3rd gen GS/IS/SC, I will need to have to lower brackets shortened to allow for the bag to sit down on the bottom of the strut."
Does it look like this?
Is it really necessary? What are the procedure to do this?
UAS told me over the phone that welding is needed.
Let me know what you guys did on your setups.
Thanks

Those brackets I know for sure are used with the Tein CS on the 2GS. I was in the same boat as you and I sold my coilovers and bought Tein CS. I talked with UAS but honestly I don't know what they said b/c I was confused. If I understood anything, atleast for the 2GS, any other coilover has to be same length as the CS to be able to use those brackets.
I'm sure those more knowledgeable will chime in, I'd like to know the answer too just out of curiousity. Good luck.

So I spoke to Zack from UAS, most helpful and patient guy I ever known!! Big props to UAS.
this is what he said:
"Some coilovers for the rear end of the IS will take and move the spring from the bottom of strut where it is from the factory, up to the top (like the megan's). Also some will keep it down at the bottom of the strut (like the tanabe's). When the coil is moved up to the top of the strut, inorder to put the bag on there it will have to be moved back down to the bottom of the strut. Now some coilovers are easy to do like the tein CS's because they don't run a double tapped coilover so we have built a bracket that will sandwich the bottom of the coilover and allow for it to sit on the bottom. Now some coilovers, like the megan or CST's have a double tapped body so they have a bottom bracket that is threaded onto the shock body. Those are a PITA because we need to shorten the bottom bracket to allow for the bag to sit all the way down at the point that the coil spring use to sit at. The CST's are not that big of a deal, because the brackets are made out of steel, we have shortened them here before inhouse and was able to weld it back up. However the megan's use an aluminum bracket on the bottom and we are not able to shorten them here, so you would need to have a fab shop cut a section out of the bracket, and then weld it back together."
So problem solved. Either fabricate the bracket or get Tanabe coils.
