How to package and send 4 rims without tires?
Hi,
Does anyone have any experience with shipping rims.
What is the best way to send 4 rims with no tires via UPS or Fedex.
The Rims are OEM 16".
The best price for shipping is if you ship as one box or one package.
Anyone have packing experience with these wheels?
Please give details?
Regards,
Matthew

your best bet is to probably ship each one individually, thats how most rims are shipped.
i shipped some wheels from NY to VA, for about 17 a wheel via usps, not the rim and tire were about 48lbs.

ups charges about $1 a lb. you should wrap each rim individually because you dont want them to get damaged ... meaning padding in the box that you ship in. bubble wrap, styrofoam etc. and just let them know whats inside so they can label accordingliy so that they know to handle carefully.

Shipping wheels
Go to a local tire store that sells a few rims and ask them for some cardboard boxes for 16" wheels. Most tire stores will give them to you for free. Bundle the rims together in pairs and ship them that way as that is how wheel manufacturers ship the wheels via UPS, so I'd imagine that's the cheapest way to do it.
I recently shipped 4 16" 3/4 ton truck Weld Racing wheels from Colorado to Missouri and it was cheaper to ship the wheels in pairs as I said above. I don't remember the exact costs but it was around $30-$35 per package of 2 wheels strapped together.
Good luck....
BTW...don't use your local mail drop off store, go to the UPS shipping counter in whatever city you live in. You'll save 3-9% on your shipping costs by going directly through UPS.

Ship them FedEx ground...waaaaaayyyyy cheaper then UPS ground (unless you have a corporate account ). Wrap them individually, placing cicular cardboard cutouts on both sides of the rim face, then tape the two sides together. If you want to save money, then you can tie two rims together and ship two packages instead of four. (I have done this using a corporate account for FedEx 2-day for $90 shipped from LA to NJ ) I have also sent rims via UPS ($1/lb or $200) and FedEx ($150) using ground with no corporate discounts...good luck.

be careful! I found out the hard way that FedEx ground will NOT honor any claim unless a) you have the original proof of purchase invoice/receipt that is less than 1 year old and b) have 5 inches of padding all the way around!!!!
