Bob, what is the maximum size lip (front and back) you can do on these wheels for a GS4 keeping in mind a high disk fitment for big brakes and with slight fender modding (not drastic fender modding). - and what width rims?
Hameed, this is a 2" front / 3.5" rear lip set-up, same that my GS has. Generaly, we do a 2" front / 3" rear lip for customers with GSs, and they clear big brake kits easily, and I can run the rear offset up to about +43 which should require no fender mods.

My 3.5" rear lip is aggressive- I actually cut the rear fenders and had to shave about 1/4" (6mm) off of the rear axle stub to gain necessary clearance to install the center caps (I knew this when I spec'd them).

I also think the Porsche can accept an 11 inch wheel out back. With a high disk fittiment/proper offset for our cars,
In February, I am converting my 20x10 841Rs to 20x11 so I can run 305/25-20 Pirelli P-Zero Nero (I am getting one of the first sets, with accompanying 255/30-20 front tires). The GS cars will take it, with proper offset!! Sweet!

BTW, Peter's car has TechArt body kit, exhaust, and coilovers. The car was displayed as a feature vehicle at this years' SEMA show. He can be contacted at : peter@wheelexperts for more info.

GSTRANCE, you're amazing.

Hameed - you can't get that agressive on a front lip if you want to fit big brakes. I was looking at GSTRANCE's beautiful Zauber Gettins with a big front lip and there's no chance he can fit my brakes.

Bob, will those 20x11's go on without any additional fender mods?

Bob, so the maximum lip size would be 2" for the front to clear big brakes and 3" for the rear even though I will not be putting big brakes in the rear? Big brakes in the rear are mainly for show as the fronts usually do 80% of the braking, so I would not be upgrading the rears to big brakes.

Let me know what would be the maximum width of rim I could put in the back with minimal fender modifications keeping in mind that I will be using the stock brakes.

TIA!

Holy S$$$!! What kind of fender mods would you have to do to accomodate those widths???

hameed, yes, without major fender mod, and assume you get the 540r series, 2" lip in the front and 3" lip in the back is pretty much the most you can get. i beleive the problem isn't exactly the caliper in the back, but instead the center of the hub (axle stud?). with 3" lip the center of the wheel would be soooo close to the stud that you actually need special cap to fit without hitting.

2" in the front is no problem at all for big brakes. to me that's good enough

well as bob has said the fender has to be cut for sure and he has already shaved off part of the axle stub. i have a feeling that with 11, he's most likely just going to push the extra 1" inward. say he has an offset of +35 in the back, that's with the 20x10. if he gets 20x11 and want to stay flush outside, maybe he will have to go with offset +60?

actually it depends on the design. with the 540r and the 840r design, with the right offset, the rims will clear big brakes no problem, including brembo and ap racing

Richie: yes, I will only be changing the inner rim component. The offset will change to 20x11 +47 (from the present 20x10 +35). Pirelli has confirmed I will get the 305/25-20 P-Zero NERO in February 2004, along with the 255/30-20 front tire.

Hameed: The 540R series have enough 'bow' in the spoke to still clear big brakes, even with decent sized lips. The 2" front will easily clear the Stoptech, Brembo, AP, Rotora, and OE Supra brakes.

The rear 3" lip is driven mostly by the clearance necessary to have the center cap fit over the protruding axle shaft. Depending on the rear kit, I can make a determination of whether or not the spoke will clear the caliper. In your case, it is a non-issue with the OE brakes. FYI, I use the OE rear brakes, too (with X-drilled rotors, pads, and stainless lines) because I couldn't justify the expense of the 14" rear StopTech kit primarily for looks- we agree!

Hameed: My current offset is very aggressive, so adding 1" to the inside is relatively easy. I won't have to do and additional mods.

Henry is on the right track, but the final offset will be +47 on the 20x11

I have 540R's so I know. My front wheels have 'only' 1.5" lip and have TONS of caliper clearance - still a good amount of room with my StopTech's and 14" rotors. So yes, 2" lip in front seems feasible.

Hameed, the front lip is somewhat less noticeable when you have the high disc big brake clearing spokes though because they bow out and then back into the center.

Hameed, get those. I love them and was told "only for Porsches" but they are HREs and I say do it. Awesome wheels.

That 996 is simply PERFECT! 4 WS is one of my favorites!!!

Default HRE 542R

I've got these on order for my SC400. I'll post when they are on the car. Then the debate can rage whether they belong only on that big bad beautiful Porsche!
