Trouble Adding Air

This morning I took the 2006 IS250 out for some errands. Upon startup, I noticed a low tire warning in the dash. I drove it to a Valero station with an old-fashioned air machine and was able to top off the tires except for the passenger-side rear tire. I could not get the pump to add any air. With less than 10 psi left, I departed this Valero station and found another Valero station which had a more advanced air machine with digital pressure settings.
But, the same thing happened, the pump could not add air. I guessed that it was a defective valve & stem. Strange to have two different air machines fail like that.
So I drove over to my trusted mechanic shop (also where I get most of my tires) and told them my problem. They took one of their shop air hoses and they had no problem getting air into this tire. Tech said it pumped up normally and he did not suspect any fault in the tire valve & stem. I will try my emergency tire inflator or a third gas station in a few days to see if I can replicate the problem.
Anyone ever have a similar problem? Thanks in advance for your comments and suggestions.

Followup on my adding air problem. I was able to use my portable inflator to add air. But the tire would lose enough pressure over a couple of weeks to trip my TPMS. So I took the car to my trusted mechanic shop and they found that the tire & valve were OK. Turns out that I had a hairline crack in the wheel. $400 later, I'm good to go. They were able to find an exact match to my other wheels.
