Would 225/50/17 be fine for the 17X8 GS Rims?...

My tires are now Aurora 235/45/17 ZR and are absolute garbage. I have a lot of expenses now and a friend of mine with a 2K2 Maxima is looking to replace his stock potenzas and give me the whole set with a lot of thread for $100.

Go to the TireRack.com page for the tires your friend has and check the wheel width range for the size. If those skinny tires will fit on an 8" wide rim, go for it. Don't expect great handling!

The higher the sidewall the better the ride because more rubber is between the road and the wheel. 50 is higher than 45. You get better snow traction on narrower tires because more weight is on a smaller area giving better grip.
