Lightbulb Rim offsets

Peeps,
Hey could any of you tell me what offset means for the rims and what is the max. for the IS300...this would be very helpful

i am in the middle of doing an article on wheels offset for the GS and the IS, so stay tuned. basically 8 in the front and 9 in the back is very common. offset would be around 43 to 45 front and 50 in the back if you don't want any rubbing and no work done to the fender
