![Question](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif)
I need a new set of tires for my 98 GS3, which has the standard factory 16" rims. I don't want to buy new rims, but would like to improve handling a bit with wider rubber. The stock tire size is 215/60-16.
I've read other members' good advice about the best brands of tires, but my question is this: has anyone tried 225/55-16 or 235/55-16 tires on factory 16" rims? By my calcualtion, the 235/55s will be almost exactly the same diameter as the stock 215/60s. And, is there any point in doing this, assuming that the wider tires will fit?
Thanks

The stock GS400 16" rims use 225/55-16 which I have for my winter tires. I would go 225 since you will get a little more grip with the wider tire, as for 235 I have no clue if that will work. If you are looking for better grip and handling the wider tires are gonna be better overall in that department.

This site has a cool calculator that can help you play with some different wheel/tire size options.

Thanks, MW, I learned a lot from that site.
As to what Lexus says is okay, I answered my own question. The tag inside the front door panel says 215/60 - 16s, OR 225/55 - 16. DUH!
