Default Michelin Pilot Sport A/S: Tread life and long-term noise levels?

I currently have the stock 17" Michelin Pilot Sport A/S (235/45R17) on my '99 GS400. I'm 99% happy with the tires from a performance and comfort standpoint. They stick like glue on the roads (wet or dry) and they are very quiet for a performance tire, but then again, I only have put 2K miles on them.

Nonetheless, I was wondering a couple of things about them from a long-term standpoint:--for those that have owned the Micelin Pilot Sport A/S:

1. How long did the tread last you (or how many miles have you put on them)?

2. Did you have any noise issues with them as they wore down?

3. What is your tire size (i.e. 235/45R17)?

4. What is your driving style? (casual cruiser, average, or aggressive)

Default Tread Life

The tires should last about 30-35K with regular rotation, depending on driving styles. They are reasonably quiet for a performance tire.

Brandon:

Thanks for the info. Do you know if there are any noise issues as the tires wear down (like some other performance tires)?

As for the treadlife, guess I'll find out in a couple of years how long they'll last me

1. Still going strong...like brand new....its been on the car for about 6 months.

2. Noise? These are pretty quiet to me for a Ultra High Perf tire....right now I got 43 psi all around.

3. 245/35/19 & 275/30/19

4. Average...its my daily driver to and from work.

Thumbs up

i've got 11,000 on mine and still lots of tread. 245-45-17.

tire works great on wet or dry roads.

noise does not seem to be a problem, however that might be because i've got the stereo so loud i can't even hear my valentine 1 radar detecter at max volume.

oh yea i drive very aggro

I wouldn't be so fast to say the noise isn't too bad. I had Pilot XGT's on my LS430, then switched to Blizzaks for the winter when the Pilots got too smooth (25K mi.). Then this spring I put a set of Pilot A/S, 245-50X17's on stock '04 LS rims, and the noise is as bad as the snow tires. Two days and off I went to order up a set of something else -- this time I'll try the Dunlop SP5000 in the 50-series. Can't be any louder than those Michelin truck tires. . .

My experience with Nitto, Bridgestone, Toyo, and now Dunlop tells me ALL performance tires get noisy as they get worn. I know I haven't tried Michelin Pilot Sports yet, but I've heard they get noisy after 15K too.

You want quiet tires for a long time? Don't get performance tires.
