Default Loosening lug nuts

Does anyone have any ideas as to how to loosen lug nuts that seem to be overtightened? I can't seem to budge a single one. Would WD-40 help the situation?

Thumbs up

pb blaster (best stuff out) and if youhave your stock lug wrench get a long pice of pipe and put it on the other end for more leverage.

when using a breaker bar make sure you use it with caution...the amount of torque provided by an extension can break the stud or even bend it in an underdesired position...just be careful

just take it to a shop... the $$ they charge (maybe $20 at most for all 4 wheels) should be worth the headache you save... plus like panda said, if you bend/break a stud, you are gonna end up spendin more to fix it... its your car, your call, but my $.02... good luck nonetheless

i got stuck on the highway one time and the nuts were tight after a blown tire...i wasn't waiting around for a tow truck in the middle of nowhere so i just fit the crowbar on tight and kicked it with my foot...that should be enough to break them loose...just where shoes, sandals could hurt...

sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do

what do u mean it wont budge? for me i cant remove the lug by just tugging on it with my bare hands i need to actually step on the tire iron. if anything get a big person to try to remove it yeah impact wrench is the safest route.

the problem with stepping on the iron is that you most likely don't apply the right force in the right direction, and you might bend something.

yes, the wrong direction will ruin your day.

when my father was younger, poorer man (and I a very small one), before he had any decent tools, i remember him jumping up and down on his stubby tire iron every time he worked on his little mazda rx-3. he never had any problems with bending. those nuts and bolts are study.

tho I often put a little engine oil on the studs before torquing the nuts back on, keeps 'em from getting stuck for next time.

With all the cautions in place, this is an inexpensive and effective "mod" to your OEM tire wrench. Here are a couple of pics from BananaGS's site. (Thanks again Anh.) I found this suggestion on his site years ago and have kept an extra pipe in my garage and in the car. Very useful.
