Need serious cleaning help on chrome wheels
I have supra tt wheels that are chromed. I just recently added tt brakes with OEM pads and they create A LOT of dust- I hate them. Anyway, I let the wheel cleanings go too long and now the brake dust is baked onto the wheel. Soap and water- no go. I bought some Meguiars Hot Wheels all wheel cleaner and even that isn't getting the baked on brake dust off. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I need?
Thanks,
Tim

Where I work at we use Aluma-Kleen Wheel Acid. Not sure if it would be safe on your chrome rims, but I know it sure as hell isn't safe on my polished TTs... It burnt the hell outta them.

Baked into the wheel? That's the first time I've heard that.
The only thing I can think of is oven cleaner. They work great on Stainless steel and on splattered food baked into my oven. I don't know about chrome though. I'd test it out at a small portoin

have you tried a claybar? That stuff is awesome. had a neighbor, used to road race his 95 M3 (he had a roll cage )
He used a claybar to get rid of the brake dust he accumulated. Stuff really gets baked on when you're at a track day.
you can get a decent bar for under 10 bucks online.... www.autotopia.net I think.

this will sound strange, but use glass cleaner! either windex, glass plus, or any other glass cleaner. they work the best! it will get out what soap and water won't. my wheel guy actually sells CarQuest brand glass cleaner in his shop just for chrome wheels.

I'm not doing anything crazy like wheel acid.
I tried some Meguiars Hot Wheels. You're supposed to spray it on and then hose it off. It worked a little, but not enough for the built up stuff.
So today I got some Mothers wheel polish- maybe that will do the trick. But before I try that, I'll try using my Sprayaway glass cleaner. I figure if its safe enough to use on tint (no ammonia, its safe for chrome.
Damn these tt brake pads!
