So is this considered too big of a lip for a GS? Since the GS is a smaller car and doesn't have a widebody like the LS in the other pic.

Potholes would eat up those lips.

I think that wheel takes a trade practice and exaggerates it. By curving the edge of a spoke a wheel manufacturer can give more lip clearance, but this wheel curves the spoke until it disappears. I also think the barrel trick (finishing it deeper within the rim) is another shortcut to give a deep lip. I wonder about the strength of that spoke, with it being contoured at such an extreme angle.

That is one reason that I now note whether a lip is "interrupted or un-interrupted". If the spoke of that wheel did not curve it would only have a 1-2" lip. The face of this wheel is covering approx 50-60% of the lip. That is the reaon that other wheel looks so audacious, it has about the same lip size, without the wheel protruding over the lip.

Take a look at a wheel like a Bluelex's Zauber Gettin for reference, it has a 4" lip in 20", but about .5-.75 of that is interrupted by the face, which is just fine, it has balance, and looks very nice. Rominl's front HRE 540 is another good example. But when you exaggerate that, it's just not the same. Kinda like cheating, IMHO

No offense to those that may have or like the wheel, I am just not a fan of going to those lengths to have a lip.

Now, there's no cheating here whatsoever with my buddy's car with 19x12 0 offset Estatus D2 wheels. No barrell effect, no nothing. Just straight up big phat deep wheels fitted under IMC flares.

Thats what I mean, a wide wheel with a dish face and no interuption. I wouldn't go THAT deep but at least its real.

I saw this rim before. It has lip, but not true lip.

With that wide body LS, having the big lip is necessary; otherwise, the wheel would rub against the suspension.

I'm also not a big fan of "cheater lips". It's just that when I saw these wheels posted, all I heard from the thread was praises. And I automatically assumed that people on this board (except for a few) doesn't really care about what I would call a "true lip".

jtanoyo1 - I absolutely love your friend's ride with the big lip, flares and all. But then again, I might be a minority. And yeah, he didn't cheat on the wheels but he did on the body. LOL J/K

BTW, I think this is the LS in question.

No offense to CL members, but I agree....NO CHEATER LIPS!

I guess many members prefer 4 inch "cheater" lips, over "true" 6 inch lips.

imho that's fake lip, coz' the spokes go all the way in. and yes, somehow i just think structurally the wheels just can't be too strong
