18" x 7.5" on '99 gs need advice
I bought some chrome 18" wheels off of Ebay a while back. Now it is time to get new tires and I found out that my wheels are actually 7.5" wide. This is apparently quite narrow for a GS. On top of that, the previous owner mounted 245/40/18 Toyo T1-S tires on the wheels. From looking at TireRack specs, a 245 tire is too wide for a 7.5" rim. I need advice on what to use as a replacement tire as I have too much $$$ in the wheels to ditch the setup all together. I am thinking either 225/45/18 or 245/45/18. I realize the 245/45 would be out of spec... Could I put some L-tuned springs on to reduce the ride height back to normal (to compensate for the increased diameter of the tire)?? The 225/45 would be in spec, but very very few tire companies make such a size. HMMM?? What to do. Also, any recommendations on tires would be great as well, especially if you are running one of the sizes I am considering. At this point, I want increased treadlife so I am thinking about an all-season tire (Michelin Pilot Sport A/S or Pirelli Nero MS)

i'd go for 235/40-18 its just slightly under factory spec 225/55-16 (25.40 vs 25.74) but since you are slightly underspec'd on wheels, it will be a good tradeoff. Good luck and maybe some spacers in the rear will help with the low width as well.
