Default pros and cons, going larger than spec

I'm close to buying new tires for my new oem setup but am not sure which size I want to do.

Reccomended size is 225/50/17 and I'm thinking of doing 225/55/17, a full inch larger in diameter.

Negatives (of moving to larger size)
Speedo off by 2.3mph @ 60mph
larger wheels might rub? (not sure due to the wheels not being that wide)
might decrease performance?

Positive (of moving to larger size)
Extra 1/2" or so of clearance (I have a body kit on my SC4)
Would reduce wheel gap a little more
All season and winter tires are at ~53$ cheaper each (and not to mention many more choices)
More allowable treadwear

It seems to me that it shouldn't be that big of a deal with the 55 series tires but I would like to hear from others on their thoughts on what they would do.

On a SC? I think 55 with scrub with the 17s.

Overall Diameter of 225/50-17 = 25.85

Overall Diameter of 225/55-17 = 26.74

Increase of .89, puts you at the same overall diameter as a 245/35-20 (26.75) so you have to be very careful with that front fender on the SC (rubbing) a inch is probably about the lowest I would lower in the front, and still, be careful!

Yeah... i'm kinda on the fence.... still, haha.

I will be at stock height for the time being and since the width is narrower than a 245 setup, I'm thinking it should be ok. The main problem that I can think of is that if I hit a dip hard it would bump the top of the wheel well. But are you saying that if I decide to do a drop, I could probably do an inch drop up front max? I was thinking of getting a set of 19s for next summer and was going to do 245/40/19 (like what some people are running on their 19" setups on the SC).

hmmm. this is a tough decision to say the least.

The fat setup 19 is basically the same diameter as the 55 17" setup. Either way you cant go much lower than 1" to avoid fender rubbing. On the SC fender rubbing has MUCH more detrimental effects due to the important wiring located above the drivers side tire.

LOL> one of the reasons why i can't lower my car in the front anymore than it already is. stupid shallow fenders on the SC.... maybe if i did some HEAVY finder mods, i'll be okay.
