As for a 255/50/17, I would imagine it could fit, but I fear that with that width/offset, you run risk of rubbing on the inner fenderwell or the suspension. In addition, I understand you have a method of correcting MPH in your head, this setup will be off by 5%.

I think that you really need to see what these tire sizes will look like (remember that the tire width does somewhat bleed into the sidewall height, especially on smaller wheels).

Honestly, 255/50 may be too big for the wheel and car, so that is one step I would not suggest

So would 250 or 245/50 work in your opinion? Am I wrong in figuring that if I increase the height the ride will improve? Once again, my primary objective is to get a smoother ride staying with the 17's.

yes, you will have adequate cushion with 245/50 but the speedo will be off. There is no 250....
So, make a choice...245/45 or 255/45 - these match your factory overall diameter.

Trust me on this one. I have been doing this for sometime.

Please, for the life of all that is good do not go with a 245/50 or 255/50 unless you are planning on jacking (raising) the car up. That is also adding 2" to the overall diameter. Meaning you will do more than throw your speedo off.


Try it with 255/45. You will like it. Remember, adding width will add some sidewall

But wait a minute...I am not sure if that is such a good idea on an 8" wide wheel. For example, on an 8.5" wheel, you want a 245 width tire. Another thing to keep in mind is that if the tire is not the correct width/diameter overall, you are lugging around unneeded weight and therefore will have a few more key factors - uneven tire wear, more fuel consumption (gotta use the good stuff), etc.

I think I will move this to the tire section. Brandon can chime in here if I am right or wrong. I normally get the correct size tire...there are fat setups, but usually not to the extreme here (up one sidewall size not both sidewall and width).

Another thing to remember = tires vary by mfg. For instance, a Pirelli tire in a 45 series may be = to a 35 series in Yokohama (sidewall heght). Conversely, a Falken tire in a 40 series may be = to that of a 50 series Pirelli.

Do your homework on that.....you might end up wishing you doublechecked that. I used those for reference, but I am serious, that is how they are.
