I will probably be buying tires soon and I'm looking at the best tire I can find that is all-season, but still gives good performance in the summer.
I've been to the TireRack site and poked around but I need to do it some more.
Right now, the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S are in the running.
Does anyone have any experience or thoughts on these?
other possible candidates? The TireRack has Bridgestone Turanza and a Continental ContiExtreme Contact. tire rack
Oh yeah, They show this as an optional rear tire:
Rear Optional 17" 265/40-17
Any thoughts on whether I should put this on a stock 17" chrome rim? I love the fat look, but, was concerned about it being too much wider than stock, for the stock rim.
THANKS

I've been buying performance tires almost 20 years now....tried many different brands. Loved the max grip of the Yokohama AVS Sports. Best grip in the business but too much tire noise. Toyo's are great but sorta hard. Nitto is okay for the price but loud and burns up fast. Goodyear burns up faster than any tire I ever had. Think I got 6 or 7 thousand miles out of em. Actually, I won't go through every tire I had...let's cut to the chase.
Michelin is the best tire in the world. SOme tires are more quiet. Some have better grip. Some have better water traction. None do everything well like the Michelins. I have Pilot Sport A/S currently and I love em. They're also the most expensive. I paid $315 each for the fronts and $330 each for the rears....on sale. If you can't justify the cost, I'd go with Dunlop 9000 or Yokohama AVSdb2 which are engineered to be quiet.

I've got Michelin Pilot A/S's on my stock 17s for the summer. Great tires. Fairly quiet and comfortable. My only complaint is that you need to rotate them frequently or else you'll develop the dreaded "pull to the right." I had it for a while, but it disappeared as soon as I rotated them. Hope this helps.

Looks like a potential candidate too!
EDIT:
Wow, I didn't realize this until after the post above, but, after reading more at the TireRack, I see that for all UHP A/S tires the Michelin and Pirelli Nero are the TOP TWO! (UHP A/S = UltraHighPerformance All Season)
They've got the P's at $137 each and the Mich's at $180 or so each.

I love my 225/45YR17 Pilot Sport A/S. Had to replace the factory Bridgestone Potenza RE040's. I bought them based on my driving needs and have always had great service from Michelin tires. I put 25k on the OEM tires, and i'm currently about 12k miles on the PS A/S. The tires have a high treadwear rating and still look new and unused literally. I've never experienced the dreaded pull since i regularly rotate my tires.
I've driven them in a few SoCal rainstorms already and brought it around 4 laps of the CA Speedway front stretch and infield courses, and they still run smooth. BTW, this is all on my 14 month old 2004 IS.
The Pirelli PZero Nero's were my 2nd choice.

Well, there's no doubt that the Mich' is a good tire and well liked by you guys that are running it. Thanks a lot for the feedback.
Assuming the TireRack is trustworthy in it's ratings......that Pirelli is looking better all the time.
I think I'm going to get them unless anyone here has something bad to pass on about them that I should consider....
This is from the TireRack, I hope it pastes in ok.....

imho, michelin they are good stuff, very good quality, grip, and ride comfort together with noise. however, looking at the price tag, unfortunately, i just think it's a bit overpriced. that's just me though.
i have the perelli nero, i love it too, it's cheaper than the michelin and i think they are comparable. for sure though, the handling isn't as good imho

I put the Pilot Sport A/S on my 01 Maxima & they wera an absolute awesome tire!! Pretty expensive but a top quality tire. What is the exact size you need BA? Perhaps there is another possibility or two out there that you might want to consider beforehand....just to be sure your getting the best.

tire rack
I trusted the ratings on tire rack twice and was disappointed. I talked to tire shop staff all over the country who said michelin is the best money can buy yet tire rack doesn't rate them high. I asked the tire rack guys why and they were non responsive. That means something fishy is going on. Bottom line is tire rack is not the gospel.

Tirerack dosen't rate them high?? WHAT? Check out the many reviews by actual owners to see what they have to say! I've heard tirerack folks themselves (some on this site!) praise them too.
