loss of tire air pressure?
well fellow sc's,
i've got 12k on my '03 running stock w/ chrome trd's and 18's dunlop 5000 DSST.
recently, my right rear tire losses air every week.
i fill it to 42psi and run on the weekends. It sits for 5 days and when the weekend comes around, I turn on the engine, the tire pressure light comes on.
I take it to the gas station, check the tire pressure, it reads15-20 psi.
so i fill it up again to 42psi.
this happens on a weekly basis now.
is there something wrong w/ that particular tire?
Also, i'm getting vibration in the steering wheel at around 40mph in city streets.
time for a tire change?

I certainly hope the Dunlops last longer than 13K! Mine have about 5K on them and seem as if they'll be good for 25K.
These problems could be related. I'd have the leaking tire checked out by a competent tire guy. Could be the bead has developed a little leak from hitting a hole. This might also have knocked your tire out of round causing your vibration. If not that, then get whatever is leaking fixed and have your wheels balanced. Tell the balancer about the shimmy. A good tire guy will find your problem.
Wow, do you really run the tires at 42psi? That seems high to me. Could give you a harder ride than necessary and wear your tires out in the middle. I try to hold mine at about 38 and they're wearing pretty evenly.

The air pressure loss can be a number of factors.......from what your mentioning, it sounds like you have a nail, screw or somethingin your rear tire. Could be a tiny pin hole type thing as well. It's an intresting statistic to note that approx 75 - 80% of all tires that have air loss problems (nail in the tire etc) are in the rear tires....not the front (I learned that about 2 years ago). I suspect that is your problem & it should be a fairly minor repair to patch or plug the leak. Good Luck & keep us posted!
