Question Wheel question...

I had some 20' black rims with a polished lip on my 00 GS300. The rims only come in 20x8.5. I want the same rims kinda for my GS430 but with 20x10 for the back. I found a place that has the rims and they said they could make the rim in 20x10 in two days. My question is how is that possible?

Either they order it in that size if they can get it or they will have it widened. The only way you are going to know is if you ask them how they are going to do it.

I think they are going to widen it cause the guy told me that it doesn't come in a 20x10. Is a widened rim a bad buy?

If they are a reputable shop and do that kind of work then you should be fine. Just make sure they stand by there work and it balances fine.

Well I'm in Maryland and they're in California. Wholesale Depo in Modesto. I think I'ma hold off on that cause the name sounds a little suspect.

I'm sure we have CL members in Modesto that can check out the shop if you are really wanting to do it. I personally wouldn't want a widened wheel. Depending on your price you can get some good wheels in a 20x10 rear.

Yeah I'll go a differnet route, cause I don't want no messed up rims.

I always wondered about this route (widening a wheel)

but it just doesn't sound or seem or play out in my mind as being logical

wheels are made out of aluminum, how do you weld on more aluminum??? I don't think you can weld aluminum because it's soo soft at high temps....

If its a multipiece modular wheel then it can be disassembled, and recontructed with new hardware to make it wider. If this is what they are doing then they should just say that, rather than "widen". That sounds very generic!

If it is a one piece wheel then I have NO idea what they are doing!

Those wheels do not come in 20x10 (that i know of) and they are 1pc, so be VERY careful with having them "widened"

Good luck.

I'm not even going that route. Sucks that they don't come in 20x10 though.

You can get them powdercoated or painted.
