Hi everyone,

I had the misfortune of getting in the way of a rolling object and blew our one of my tires. To make matters worse, Michelin discontinued the model I have, so I'm looking at replacing all four.

I've place an order for the BFG G-Force T/As in 255/ 40-R17s as they are not available in the stock size. I know the height to be almost an exact match to the 235/45R-17s but I'm a little concerned about rubbing, as the new size is almost 3/4 of an inch wider.

I know we've beat tire sizes to death on this forum, but I've rarely come across any information regarding the upsizing of the stock 17s on stock suspensions!

Also, does anyone know how these tires compare with the Michelin Pilot Sports? More noise, less noise, handling etc.

I've been wondering how wide I could go in the rear on 17" lexus wheels?

Michelin makes a Pilot Sport 2 in 265-40-17.
I would love to get them if they would fit on my rear wheels and not rub.

I've got Pilot Sport A/S 245-45-17 now.

heres the deal

OEM lexus rims are 17x8

tire manufacturers all agree that the widest you can SAFELY go without worrying about the tire stretching off the rim on an 8" wide wheel is 255

I wouldn't go 265 on OEM rims, but by all means if you are running 17x9's 265 is more than fine

thicker sidewall, smoother ride, plenty of tread to the ground, no need for 255's on 17's, IMHO

I would go with the 255-40-17

Actually I already did and no rub and cannot tell that there is any difference in road noise or ride comfort.

Hey thanks
ChuckB planted the seed in my head of doing Iforged 17".
Would be lighter than OEM

If I did that I could go 9" wide on the rear.

So you don't think there would be any rubbing with that size.

I've been thinking about going wider in the rear since I got the TC.
Kind of think more tire on the road would help traction.
But I'm not really feeling the urge to get bigger wheels.

when I had thoughts of getting 18's (before I bent a set of factory 17's ) I was gonna go 245/45/18 up front and 265/40/18 out back

If I can go 265/40/18 w/o rubbing 265/40/17 would be fine, but IMO I would step it up to 265/45/17 (depending upon how low you are now)

I am on eibachs and I know I wouldnt rub

What would be the benefit of 265-45 over 265-40. I'm only about .5" lower than stock.

If the PP2 came in a 275-40-17 or 275-45-17 I would even think about going that wide.

I like the safety of added cushion to the wheel (I live in NYC) plus the ride will be better
