Default Wheel and Tire Size - Need Help

I have a 2001 GS300 that has 215-60-16 tires and wheels.

I have purchased 17" Lexus OEM wheels, 7 1/2 inches wide.

The calculator comes up for the replacement tires as, 235-50-17.

What have the rest of you done when going to a 17 inch wheel ??

that's for the 2nd gen 17x8 wheels. he has 3rd gen 17s.

I think 235/45/17 should still be fine though.

I've read that it is best to stay within 3% difference in the diameter of the tires. Otherwise, risk brake failure.

The 235-55-17 you mention, is 3.76% difference.

The 235-50-17 is 0.39% difference.

Thanks all for your replies. I'm trying to get a consensus before making a choice.

The OEM 2GS 17x8.0 runs with 235/45/17 tires.

The OEM 3GS 17x7.5 runs with 225/50/17 tires.

They are both close enough to eachother that you can just take your pic. The 3GS spec has less contact patch but gives more sidewall. Pick your poison.

Neo.....

Thanks for your suggestion.

I think I'm going with 225-50-17, Bridgestone Turanza LSV. They have a good rating at The Tire Rack.
