I don't think it will be that bad. There will be no mistaking the meat on 275 width tires.

yeah but what im saying is, with the staggered setup isnt the rear set of wheels supposed to "stick out" more then the fronts? i thought that was the whole point, it sounds like with the setup i have an opportunity to buy with the 35mm/40mm rear that that wont be the case even though the rears are 9.5inches wide... is that maybe why this guys selling at such a good price? because they dont really make for a decent "staggered" set?

No, that is not the point. On RWD cars like ours, the rear wheel well usually can handle a wider wheel setup. From a visual/aesthetic POV, you get the wider rears to fill out the wheel well so that the front and rear are similarly flushed. If you get the same width front and back, the fronts will be much more flushed than the rear.

The other reason is because of the RWD. You want more tire width in the rear to increase contact patch = better power transfer.

The goal really is not to make the rear stick out more than the front. It can but not a necessity.

so with the 35mm front/40mm back, will it look about equally as flush you think? i just dont want the fronts looking like they're sticking out more than the backs, at all...

Nitto is the only brand to make a 235/3520 with a 275/30/20 that I know of.

hey bro, it sounds like you have a good idea, just u quick question on "matching" sidewalls though...do you mean that with these sizes, even though they are different will appear to be equal? not sure what you meant by matching, ive heard that mentioned a few times around here and just want to clear it up..sorry im new to all this never went through the big wheel/tire thing before.

sorry man i think i just answered my own stupid question...you obviously meant matching as in same brand since otherwise id have to go with a different company to get the 275/30/20s

sorry for chiming in late, i have been so busy at work i just got home

but thanks to neo for covering most of the stuff. about the rubbing, falken is the answer. falken tires are very round and they are "smaller" than usual giving it a bit stretch look. that's probably why it doesn't rub the front.

i had 8.5 +32 with 245/35/20, which has exactly same case as 9 +38. my tired were very square and i had quite a bit of rubbing (considering how low my car is)

I have these on my car
Fronts are 35mm 20X8.5 - 245/35/20 - I have rubbing in the front going through deep potholes
Rears are 38mm 9.5 - 255/35/20 - rubbing sometimes
Tires are Nitto 555, car is on stock suspension
Yes, Iam pissed, with 235's in the front it might not be so bad, please take your time choosing offsets.

The stock lugs wont fit and PM me with the prices of tires you are getting, there's a person at Tires.com that I get all my tires from I'd be happy to hook you up with his info.

there you go, tire choice is the difference. 8.5 +35 is even less aggressive than 9 +38, but lexT is rubbing slightly, just like in my case. but it's nothing major

but lexT, you are rubbing in the back, with 9.5 +38 and 255?! where is it rubbing? i can't understand man. that's very conservative offset and the tires are narrow too!

He could also have meant matching sidewall heights.

Both 235/35/20 and 275/30/20 tires will give you a diameter of 26.5" and sidewall height of 3.2". Getting other sizes will make the sidewalls different so looking at the wheels, one set (front or back) will look like it has more rubber than the other.

A quick question how will these wheels fair with a Tein CS set-up??

20x8.5 +35 front - 245/35/20
20x9.5 +40 rear - 275/30/20

Looking for a 1.5 to 2 finger gap..

Do you guys see the need to roll or cut anything in relation to the fenders??

you should be good to go

the front, if you lower enough, it will rub the top of the wheel well. it's the case for all 20s though as long as it's lowered to a certain degree

Quick Reply: will these 20 inch axis milanos fit decently on my GS w/ L-tuned S/S?
