Default Metal vs. Poly Carb Hub Centric Rings

I am going to buy some hub centric rings for my ASA wheels. Aside from the corrosion issue with the metal rings that should be managable with some grease or anti-seize compound, is there any reason not to go with metal over the plastic type rings? Seems to me, metal is stronger than plastic and I hear the plastic melt, crack and split. Anyone have any long term experience with either?

Thanks..

Neil

well keep in mind, neil, the point of hub ring is to help you center the wheels and put on the lug nuts. after everything is on, the ring should actually be pretty loose and there shouldn't be much force on it at all. so being plastic doesn't mean it will break coz' of the weight of the car. the lug nuts and studs are holding the car up, not the ring

i know friends who are using the metal rings, and i have been using the plastic ones for long time too. never a problem. unless you get some that's made out of really chessy soft plastic, i don't think they will melt?

Default Grease or Anti Seize Compound

All,

I finally received my metal hub centric rings and am going to put the new wheels on the car today. As I have heard that metal hub centric rings can corrode while in contact with dissimilar metals causing the wheels to stick to the rings which will stick to the hubs. Should I use grease or anti seize coumpound on the them? If so, which and how much.

Thanks..

I use anti-seize on the rings. For both the wheel and hub contact.

I know you already got the metal rings, but just for reference sake, Poly carbs have no difference vs. metal. I have no problems w/ deterioration. They may crack if you have them sitting in you pocket or something, but once they're on the wheel, no problems...

Default Good Info

Thanks all. I did go with the metal ones and now one appears stuck on the left rear hub. I can't get it offf. I may end up with a set of poly carbs after all. No mess, rattles or sticking to the hubs...

Thanks..

Neil
