So do you know whether non staggered 17's will work? Or are staggered simply preferred.

I will contact Greg again at Belleville with your concern. I will ask him to mount them and call you to stop by and try them. I am going by what the service department there has insisted will work. I will contact you ASAP with what is going on with this.

Hi Troy,

Hope all is working out for you in Cobourg.

I realize you are no longer at Belleville Toyota but am contacting you because I was dealing with you on this matter and you were the one who assured me my winter/tire package would work on my Lexus, with no problem clearing the brakes. I have told many people on an internet Lexus forum that this combo would work and someone even contacted Performance Lexus in St. Catherine’s to arrange the same setup, being skeptical that it would not work. Below is the response received from Performance Lexus. I would appreciate it if you could look into this as I have a set of winter rims and tires paid for, in storage that apparently will not be of any use to me.

Mort,

I wonder if there may be some confusion somewhere... this is the response I got from your dealer after inquiring about the 16" steel rim package you suggested?

Good afternoon,

Thank you for your inquiry regarding steel wheels for the IS350. At this
time, there is nothing our dealership can offer to you in ways of a 16 inch
steel wheel. That size wheel will not clear the front brakes.

We have only used the Lexus 18" Tourmaline accessory wheels for snow tires
on this vehicle. At this current time the Lexus accessory wheels are our
only option other than using the original equipment wheel.

The customer that states we have 16" steel wheel packages must be confused
with our 2001-2006 IS300 packages.
Mort, any updates!?

does anybody know what the smallest 17inch tire we can use???how about like a 215 or a ...not really wanting to go to a 255 in the back.....i think 215's would be great in the snow.....nice heavy car cutting the snow instead of a 255 shoveling on top of it

I think it all depends what width tire can fit on a rim that clears the brakes up front. Seems like it's almost a trial and error kind of thing!?

Where possible we always try and get the smallest tire for the winter. There are some limitation on the IS350. The computer is looking for a staggered OD, the calipers are big etc.

Does that really mean the car won't work with wider tires in the rear on the same size rims all-around?

No, in fact the wheels are the same size in the package I quoted above, it is the tires that are different. The tires can be the same width depending in the choice of tire but the overall diameter would still have to be different. So it could be 225/45 and 225/50 17 inch. Most IS350 owners want the best performance that why we usually do the wider size on the rear.

By the way those JH3 wheels have been sold out now until middle December and the LM25's are getting low.

What might be the thinnest tire tire that would fit on the 18 inch rims, 8inches wide in the front and 8.5 wide in the rear?
