The ones I like these days are about $800 each or so. Staggered makes them more so I'd guess about $3,500.

Thinking about it and actually doing it are two totally different things. I think this thread would be more accurate if the poll was for how much people actually PAID for their wheels.

voted for $4500 because I feel I shouldn't pay more than $1000 per rim, plus a $300-$500 for the custom finishing and that's about $4500 rim.

But I paid less than that for my Weds. So which one really counts?

I'm cheap, I voted for $1500. I couldn't imagine spending anymore. With that in mind, I'm picking up a set of '06 IS350 wheels still in the box for $600 later today. I can't wait!

I think the decesion of how much you would spend depends on how new your car is, and the resale value of it, and what condition is it in.

I wouldnt spend 5000 dollars on wheels for my Toyota Tacoma, thats just stupid! The truck not even worth that much.

I think I would stop at 6k, ther are so many quality fully forged 3pc and 2 pc wheels out there that 6k would probabaly be my threshhold on wheels and tires. But I only spent 4200.00 for mine and am a very happy man.

after my owning and subsequently having my "dream wheels" destroyed by some idiot at an NTB while mounting new rubber, I now view wheels much more as both a depreciable and perishable asset...or even liability, depending on your viewpoint.

I was so very pleased with my AME shallen CX's a couple years back and it killed me to try so hard to keep them nice and still end up losing out in the end. Try as we might, there is always the risk of either not being able to source and/or even fix a damaged wheel. Moral of the story for me.....Cost/benefit ratio is HUGE for me. $4K max, wheels and tires, baby!

It all depends on what car they are going on and what you are trying to accomplish with the swap. But in general I would not pay more than $3500 for non-forged and 6k for forged.

Expensive wheels are nice but draw too much attention. You are asking to get keyed/vandalized or robbed.

I don't want a lot of bling on my car as it is just asking for trouble.

Not to mention, most high end custom wheels are only made for a short time. When you hit pot hole and damage a wheel, you get to buy all 4 new since the model you bought is not longer available. I don't need to mention that wheels are only worth 1/3-1/2 their value as soon as you buy them.

Multi-piece wheels will not be as light as a good, lightweight one-piece wheel. The heavier flanges and the assembly bolts required by the multi-piece design assure that part. The "advantage" of a multi-piece wheel is in some people's ideas of looks, and that they can be pieced together to yield a lot of different widths and offsets (and hence fitments) using a relatively small core group of component pieces.

The on-the-road feel of a lightweight wheel is definitely noticeable compared to a heavy wheel. You can begin to feel the difference with only a couple of pounds on some vehicles, not to mention the huge poundage difference that you encounter when going with some goofy large chrome wheel and giant tires. I saw a set of wheels on a H2 (admittedly, a dorkmobile even without the giant wheels) that weighed 93 pounds each. I'm sure it would be a big hit with the Pimp My Ride gang, though. LMAO

Its so funny you say that, when I was at SEMA there was one of the mounting / balancing machine companies showing a new product. They were demonstrating it on a 28" wheel for a HUMMER, I believe the ONE Wheel and tire weighed about 180lbs! I could not believe it. To put things in perspective, I weight 195lbs! LOL

And imagine how horribly that thing would drive and handle with so much unsprung weight at each corner. The owner must value [his ideas of] image soooo much to be willing to put up with those things. When I see a vehicle with wheels like that I liken the owner to a woman who walks around in stilleto heels that are 3 sizes too small just because she thinks she looks soooo good in those small, high-heeled shoes.
