What are "Z Rated Tires"

Z-rated tires, for several reasons, are quite expensive, have poor wet/snow traction, and sometimes wear very quickly as well. IMO they are often a waste of money.........I wouldn't recommend them as replacement tires, even on cars that came from the factory with them, unless you plan to drive at very high speeds on a track or on the German Autobahn. You can sometimes find lower-speed-rated tires in the same size that are cheaper.....I would go that route for most norman American driving conditions.

The reasons why I ask is because I will be driving from Norcal to Socal (8hrs) in a few weeks and was wondering if I should be extra cautious driving since I have 20in aftermarket rims with Z rated tires....
