IS rims
Mabye you guys can help me -
I have what is known as the McLean disease - on whatever car my family buys, we have to have rims . I have a 2001 Black IS300 - whats your favorite wheel with my car/color? Should I consider a black rim (thats what my dad keeps on telling me)? Should I get 18's or 19's? And how much should I drop my car after? Should I get springs or coilovers or bags? Phewf...any help is appreciated. Thanks

Black Rims???!
I'd think twice about the black rims on a black car. One of the GS guys had dark gunmetal rims on his black GS. Didn't like the look, eventually changed them to regular silver/alloy colored rims. Personally, I have chrome for the summer on my black gs, and for the winter I have my stock Platinum Series wheels, which are very slightly gunmetal colored with anthracite inlays on the inner spokes.

bcc - Personally for me, I like the Diamond Cut/Machine Polish look with a high polish lip...but it depends on what kind of wheel you get...chrome, in a few cases, looks good (like with Mesh style wheels)...black wheels look good but only if they have a high polished lip...otherwise, when those black wheels get dirty, they look like spares (ask Brent!)
As for 18" vs. 19", well, 18" will give you a slight edge on performance because the setup will be lighter, but 19" looks better...but then again, the IS is a small car and 18" wheels look fine on it...plus the tires and wheels cost less (if that's a concern)...
I think some Yokohama AVS Model 5's would look sweet...I love those wheels (on the right car)

thanks all -
ive been convinced out of black rims ( i saw brents pic, at first i thought they were really dirty ).
my dad apparently knows someone (i have found out my dad knows just about everyone. if i wanted a sit down with the president, i could probably have it tommorow), and hopefully i can get hooked up on some bbs/oz/yokohama.
im also gonna go for 18's - i do want a little more than duct tape on my wheels . and unfortunatly, i live in an area where bent rims could be a problem .
i do have another question about lowering my car - how much do coilovers cost? my dad knows a guy (suprise) that said he'll hook me up on lowering (springs). is there any outstanding benifit to coilovers/vs springs? thanks

Coilovers allow height adjustment. And in some cases, dampening adjustment. Also, the shocks are calibrated to the springs...this is important to maintain a good ride and to have "good" performance from suspension...stock shocks are NOT set up "lowering"...
If you can get the Yokohama AVS Model 5's, those would look SUPER NICE on the IS...if I had a IS, these would DEFINITELY be a consideration...
Coilover cost anywhere from $1000-$4000 depending on who's you get...while price is not necessarily indicative of the quality or performance, in most cases, "you get what you pay for"...
