Michelin Pilot VS Goodyear Eagle (TIRES!)
Okay.. opinions are needed.
Michelin Pilot Sport A/S I hear are awesome tires and I can get a good deal on them...
Goodyear F1 Eagle GS-D3 are also good tires I hear and I can get a REALLY good deal off of those.
My stock Potenzas are rolling up on 26k miles and still have some rubber, however when I take my car in for the 30k maint. I want them to swap the tires to the new ones.
So I really need help in my decision.... I know the Michelins are good I have read about IS owner's experience with that so that is why I am leaning toward them, but on the flip side all of the my friends say that the Goodyear tire is better and somewhat cheaper. Give me some guidance!
Prices:
Michelin
Front Tire
225/40ZR-18 88Y DIR (34197) $224.00
Rear Tire
255/40ZR-18 95Y DIR (34202) $288.00
Goodyear
Front: 225/40ZR18 $185.00
Rear: 255/40ZR18 $238.00

potenza RE050 Pole Positions are outranking both right now (barely) for the same price as OEM RE050 (non pole position) but perform far better. But the Pilot PS2 and F1 GS-D3 are close behind. The Goodyears have a lot more miles reported, than either

The Goodyear's have a higher tread rating so they should last you a little longer. I had a set of Pilots A/S (not the Pilot Sport) on my old Accord Coupe and the damn things lasted for 25K, well under the 50K that the NTB warranty covered. Luckily they gave me over $200 off my next set of tires, which were Yokohama's.
I'm going to take a serious look at the Goodyear's when that time comes for me. I don't know if I will go back to Michelin.

I have been really happy with my Michelin's. I don't live in a cold climate any more so I can't speak of their performance in snow but I they are great in the rain.

I had the F1 GS-D3 on my Audi, and loved them. They were quiet, didn't tramline, handled well, and lasted longer than any other performance tire (e.g. Bridgestone S03 pole position) I had on the car.

Both are great tires and I don't think you can go wrong with either.
My only suggestion would be to go with 235/40/18's on the fronts instead of the 225's. It'll give you a little more sidewall for potholes, better curb protection, handling and braking.

OP: Good question! Even though I'm (fingers crossed) a ways away from replacing tires, I've had the same question on my mind. If the Michelins aren't as good as advertised, I may give the Goodyears a spin.
Keep us posted on what you decide on and why.

Wow.. I am so torn! I really just want a quieter tire, because these existing Potenzas are horrible..but what is to be expected after 26k. I still have 6mm at the highest point so I'm okay for now, or so says my dealership.
I probably will not upgrade to a large tire size simply because I am getting on average 27.5 mpg and that is excellent for the amount of driving I do. I'd hate to change the tire size and alter the weight of the vehicle or something such as that. I asked a mechanic at Delta World Tire his idea of going to larger tires and he said that could possibly throw the balance and handling of the car off. I'm really not sure. I think I will have to do much more research -- I want my ride to be abit quieter, and treadware to be better! I know maybe I should have bought the GS or ES but the IS just feels so much better on those off ramps.

If you are concerned about noise, I can tell you for sure the Bridgestone RE050A Pole Position is MUCH quieter than the OEM RE050 you got with the car. I just did this change about 1000 miles ago (I got 34,160 miles out of the OEM tires) and I couldn't be happier. They are also quite a bit cheaper than the Michelins, and I did seriously consider them, but the Bridgestones are significantly better in rain, and I'm experiencing a lot more rain in Georgia than I ever had in NorCal. Even in a downpour the RE050 PP perform admirably.

Take a look at the Avon M550s. Best bang for the buck and have good ratings. I'm running a set now and they work great!

IS_Mine, I will now give you the best advise reguarding tires for the street:
When you get to the hi-end of the spectrum of tires, there is only 2 things to look at because unless your a professional racer and take your car/tires to the limit, a normal person with normal city driving...blah blah blah you get my point. SO... one is tread wear, cuz after all these tires are damm expensive AND THE MOST IMPORTANT thing to consider, how cool the tread pattern looks to you. Yes thats right, how cool the tread pattern looks. F1 GS-D3 FTW!!!
