Default Michelin Pilot Sport vs. Pilot Sport PS2

Does anyone know the difference between these two? Is PS2 just a newer updated version of Pilot Sport? If performance and noise level are comparable, I prefer Pilot Sport than PS2 because it looks better.

PS2 is the newer version, comes standard on the IS-F and a slew of new high performance cars.

Reviews for it have been just glowing, probably my next tire or the GY Eagle F1. I have to say, I can appreciate this thread as I've flirted with going with the PS1..

So any user input would be great!

ps2 is the replacement of the ps, newer version. the ps2 is a bit softer and much quieter than the ps imho, and i think performance wise it's also better

however, problem with ps2 is the wear. pretty much most owners "complain" about the wear, which goes from 10k to 15k depends on driving.

if you want hardcore handling/performance tires, and can afford the price tag, the ps2 is a really really good choice (it would be my choice for top performance too). however, if it's for your daily driver, personally i wouldn't choose them coz' of the price/wear.

I can vouch for the price/wear issue... I personally just had a set of the michelin ps2 tires and they happened to last a good 8 months which was approximately 18k miles. I don't drive that hard and I go slow through the turns.

Cost: $1500 at discount tire.

I just put on a set of Falken 452 tires and they are almost as quiet as the michelin ps2 tires and they are more affordable than the michelin ps2 tires.

Cost: about $750? I forget.

I researched the 2 tires in question back in Feb/Mar of '06 and came away with the PS2's. Couldn't be happier. They are still working fine as well. Aside from aggressive cornering & starts I would say that your braking style has something to do with tire wear. Because I'm not the aggressive driver though I may go with the PS A/S next time for double the tread life. I guess it's a true sign of getting old - sacrificing performance for cost (double the treadlife = half the cost in the long run).

The max performance summer tires will all have about 15-20K tread life, so there is always going to be a trade off there. Hopefully, if you are purchasing that type of tire you are buying with the understanding that softer rubber = greater performance. One has to search ones soul when making these difficult decisions, and decide if they are willing to trade miles for smiles.
