Default car sickness

I suspect that the carsickness may not be a function of the ride quality but rather that small children are not able to look out of the car since the window sills are quite high. I used to drive an SC400 and my wife had an LS400, when my children were younger they complained of feeling car sick while riding in the backseat of the LS but did not complain in the SC. I would try raising the child seat, maybe install it on the flipped down center armrest in the backseat of your GS. This may allow the 4 yr. old more visibility and solve your problem.

Through my extensive research in car sickness I have come up with 2 major causes, quick starts and quick stops. You are the only person who knows when either is going to happen. Everyone else just reacts to what the car does. Just think if you were a passenger blind folded and did not have a chance to set up for what was comming ahead? Accelerate smoothly and stop smoothly and that will make a difference.

Very good point. Many drivers are REALLY inconsiderate of their passengers. It's one thing when everyone's expecting a 'hot lap' but when driving otherwise, drive like a chauffer! Anticipate stops way ahead and start slowing down. The 2 seconds longer it takes to slow down won't matter since you're approaching a red light anyway but your passengers will appreciate it.

You young hot rods, try driving smooooooothly and gently once in a while. It actually takes a lot more skill than just mashing the gas pedal.

The stock Bridgestone Potenza Ride smoother than Dunlop Sp 5000s
But the one thats beats them all is Michelin Pilots XGT Z4s They ride the best and offer the best handling..they are on my 3000GT as well

Default New tires

Get new tiressssssss!!!!Those bridgestones wore out after like 7-8k for me and the ride was horrible. With new Michelins and good care ( rotations, balancing, and align) u should see big difference. the car sure does float around

Hi,

I think your son is trying to say he wants to sit in the front.......the car rides just as somooth with 17 as it did with 16s. no I got 18" L-tuned and it is still okay........good luck.

Went from 1992 LS400 to a 1998 GS400

Started with OEM Lexus 16's, ride was good. Upgraded to aftermarket Vault rims on 235/45 17. Hated the ride. Went to 245/45 17, improved a little. Still feel the difference and want my Lexus ride back. I don't think I can get a higher sidewall than 245/45 17 without rubbing, so my only resolution is back to 16's?

On 16's, I see wheels 16 x 7.5 OEM, and 16 x 7. How does losing the half inch affect my vehicle?

Back to the topic at hand, I think the 17's provide better handling, etc, but for a true Lexus ride getting close to an ES or LS, 16's must be it. For those of us not racing daily, and want a smoother ride, shouldn't we stick with 16? After all, for power and those few moments our type might race, we do have a GS after all.

Who of you realistically can say you have as smooth a ride with plus sizes, versus 16? Can you even say the difference is negligible? I can't.

Now I am very curious. Do Mercedez or BMW owners have this "harsh ride" problem on their 17s? Not to go that far, do IS300 owners have the same issue as GS owners on 17s? Any "real world" comment?

I test drove the new 745 BMW, 18 stock, it rode like a truck, compared to the LS430 and S class. tirerack.com suggested getting out of my GS400 Toyo tires, for some touring ones, but said ultimately NY bumps and potholes can only be handled with 16's, in FL you can ride 20's.
