Default MAYA Rims...bad chrome :(

OK, I have these 20" Maya rims. Im not sure if theyre still built by "Traffic Stars" or not, but the chrome is peeling like paper on all 4.

I contacted their US distributor to see if I could BUY new lips but I guess they're too busy after the sale and havent replied

anyone know a good place on the west coat to send them in for a real chrome plating. ???

That sucks to hear. Were these wheels purchased brand new? How long before they started peeling?

You should call Dazz Motorsports, they are the importers of the wheels. Were the wheels new when you bought them or used?

yeah, new

But we found out what happend.....

I noticed that the rims had a residue on them and and went back to the place that mounted the tires.

as I walk in, im greeted by "Hi MsEmerald!!...getting more tires mounted"? all smiles. Then (im assuming) the guy who mounted these came from the back to say "Hello" and said the following:

"I hooked your rims up for you last time...hope you liked it!!"

Me: uh, what exactly did u do?
Him: they were dirty and REALLY dirty after all the grease we used to put those rubber bands on
Me: And?
Him: I used chrome cleaner and cleaned them up real good.
Me: Oh....I...See

This kid is like 17 or 18 at his first job.

I kinda asked him how long he's been 'cleaning' rims and he said he wouldnt have cleaned them as good if it were anyone elses rims. goes on talking about different "MsEmerald" stuff.

I told him what happened and that I wouldnt tell his boss. He made a huge mistake but I dont want him to lose a job that he wants to make a career out of

I felt soo bad seeing this 'kid' twitching in front of me with tears forming.

He's having his dad help him sand (wirewheel) the flaking chrome. I'll have them powdercoated.

I dont honestly think they couldve covered the tab for those rims to be replaced

I'll call in a favor one day.

But Im still upset with Dazz for not even bothering to return my message.

This happened to me today, I used a "chrome cleaner" for my Kranze and it left a permanent residue, tried buffing it out but didnt work What are your solutions?

What chrome cleaner is this so I'd know to avoid it and advise others to do the same.

It sounds like yours are really repairable. You can have them (spot) brush plated or the entire barrel re-chromed. Mine are peeling away

Im going to have the centers repainted and the lips powdercoated

doesnt mean its "generic" product. they buy in bulk and im sure it would be hard to lug around a 5 gallon container of Armor-all to dress up tires
