Depending on vehicle, Toyota rotors can be $125+/each. A good shop can turn them to achieve a nice surface avoiding rotor replacement so log as they maintain spec for acceptable thickness. A worn grooved rotor is not the ideal match and is a cost cutting move at the expense of pad wear as it conforms to the old grooves worn in by the previous pad. Other cars some rotors are not very $ that spending the $ to machine isn't worth it so I'll replace. Some of the parts stores that will turn rotors are heavy handed so be careful as they take too much off which significantly reduces rotor lifespan.

The indy did the front axle with rotor machining for $225. This included Toyota ceramic pads hardware.

Rule to live by if you take your rotors somewhere indy to have them turned: know what the stock thickness and minimum replacement thickness are before you walk in. After they turn them, have them measure in front of you. Some indys either purposely or accidentally over-shave and force you to get new ones.

I'm with you. If my rotors have no problems of any kind I never turn them. The only thing I may do is use a die grinder with 80 grit disc and lightly crosshatch the rotor. In my 70 years I've done a lot of brakes.
