Default Sense of direction?

I just bought a set of wheels, and they're marked left-rear, left-front, right-front, and right-rear. Obviously I know rear refers to the rear of the car (and the wheels are staggered by 1/2 inch, 8 and 8.5 in the front and rear respectively). BUT, which is the left and which is the right?

I assume the imaginary mechanic would be standing in front of the car, facing the car, so 'left' would be the passenger side and 'right' would be the driver side. Am I correct or no? Unlike my current Kumhos, the Bridgestones do not point to any rotational direction, and I'm pretty much clueless when it comes to tire tread etiquette.

Thanks for the help, will post pics tomorrow when I mount them!

Moved here. You are talking about your wheels? Once they are not directional spokes, it doesn't matter what side they are on.

^ yup.

But: if you want to put them where they are 'supposed' to go, then I'm pretty sure "left" = drivers side. Most things on a car are considered from the drivers seat.

correct, convention is you are in the "driver" position. so left is driver side

i don't know what wheels you have, but for example is-f wheels, i believe they have left and right difference?

When you turn on your *left* turn signal, which side if the car blinks?
