Default Run Flats & no Spare :(

Hi everyone,

I just purchased a certified preowned 2007 lexus gs450h and overall its great but i am kind of unsatisfied with the fact it does not come with a spare tire. the dealership told me that because they have run flats they dont come with a spare tire from the factory. Is this true?

Has anyone questioned their dealer about this? if so how did it go and what was the result?

there are more and more vehicles today that do not come with spares... most of these have some sort of runflat tire equipped from the factory... some, however, do not - the Corvette Z06, for instance... you get a can of tire sealant and thats it... same with some M3's...

Any vehicle factory equipped with run flat tires does not have a spare tire. It would completely defeat the purpose of having a run flat tire. You can safely drive on a runflat time for 100km while flat. The downside is that you have to replace it as they are not repairable.

You will find them on most luxury vehicles than anything. Reason for this is because most of the people who buy these high end cars wouldn't even know how to change to a spare tire if their life depended on it or just don't want to get dirty.

Run flats are practically double the price of regular tires. But in my honest opinion I would just change it to regular tires (only if changing a set) and call a tow truck if I get a flat. Reason why is because for one regular tires are repairable unlike run flats. Two if you get a tow and still need to replace the tires its still cheaper than the run flat. Three, when you have to change our all 4 tires you save at least $400.

I was fortunate to have a spare tire but it does me no good now with my BBK.
