need wheel help...plz. advise!
i am closing my deal now on my 98 gs4 (35k miles). my first move is to get some new wheels/tires. i don't know squat about wheels, other than what i've read on every other thread here...i just need some basic input the following questions from members who know from experience.
what happens to a cheaper wheel vs. a more expensive wheel over time? (chrome comes off? bends easier? what?) how much of the price is really just in the brand name?
i know i want 18" wheels (and won't be convinced otherwise) for the quiet and soft ride i'm buying the car for, and will be going w/ an aftermarke shock/spring setup after my wheels. what widths are most advantageous? can one really tell a difference in performance in a .5" difference in widths? (ie. 8 vs. 8.5") how important is it to get a wider wheel in the back in the gs4?
my budget being around $1500-2k, i've seen the ssr, oz, enkei, and voxx that i like...what are your opinions of these wheels regarding qualityand performance?
thanks.

Soft and Quiet?! Softer and Quieter, perhaps, but even the factory 17s can be harsh. You should be able to find some decent 18s for around $2K + tires. 8.5" width all around works well and allows you to easily rotate, staggering is primarily for looks. Oz, SSR and enkie are good companies although enkie has some cheaper lines that I would avoid.

some/many of the cheaper copy cats have poor finish quality, use lower grade aluminum material, do not possess safety seal from countries such as usa, germany and japan....AND they are not that cheap....ssr, oz enkei are good co; not sure about voxx...
if you could get to ~low $2ks for wheels, you should be looking at excellent quality wheels form japan or europe
